“Mangalsutra” is an ornament very close to the heart of an Indian woman. In India, it is a custom for the bride to wear this ornament as a symbol of the bond of “Vivah” A woman wears the Mangalsutra with pride as it is a sign of “Saubhagya” which is considered to be very auspicious according to the Hindu religion. The black beads are meant to avoid any negative energy and the “vati” and “mani” tied with a knot represent the bond between the bride and the groom. They are believed to be a form of Shiva and Shakti.
